Competition checklist

 

I am assuming that your teacher has checked that everything you are planning to wear is approved by the SOBHD. Judges will take marks off for things that are worn that shouldn't be worn and things that aren't that should be! Check the SOBHD Dress Code if you are unsure about something you or your child is planning to wear in a competition.

Here's a list of what you should be packing to take with you. As you can see, a sturdy suit carrier is definitely a worthwhile investment.

HIGHLAND DANCES

Kilt (with dark coloured underwear) Kilt Hose (with elastics/flashes)
Jacket/Waistcoat White Highland Blouse/White shirt
Bow tie Lace insert if wearing sleeved jacket
Black Highland pumps Braces
Sporran Body top if wearing sleeved jacket

Bonnet

 

 

 

NATIONAL DANCES

Aboyne Skirt/Tartan Trews White underskirt
White socks/tights for adults (and spares) White blouse for Aboyne
Aboyne Bodice and cord Plaid and Brooch

Light coloured underwear

 

 

SAILOR'S HORNPIPE

Trousers Top
Hat White/Navy socks
Black ribbon for top Vest (if not attached to top)
   

IRISH JIG

Skirt/Dress with apron White underskirt
Blouse if dress is sleeveless Bodice if wearing skirt or white dress
White socks/tights for adults Hair ribbon if desired
Tailcoat, waistcoat and trousers Hat, muffler and shillelagh

Towels Sewing kits
Spare shoe laces/elastic Lots of safety pins
Items for hair styling Directions to the event
Rosin (or slipstop) A beach towel (for stretching on)
Painkillers Spare elastics for hose
Your results book A camera
Any trophies from last year to return Refreshments
